Membership

Your annual contribution of $25.00 entitles you to active membership in the Strong-Turner Chapter of the A-State Alumni Association and will support activities, such as Homecoming, meet and greet receptions, potlucks, publications, 3.0 Honors Program and student recruitment/retention. ORGANIZATION

The Strong-Turner Alumni Chapter of the A-State Alumni Association exists on the state level to involve alumni and friends of A-State who desire to serve the university through the Alumni Association. This will be accomplished by the expression of particular interest in the advancement and development of African American alumni.

S-TAC is directed by the following elected officers: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian. There are four regular meetings held each year by the Strong-Turner Alumni Chapter, ( 1st meeting in February, 2nd meeting in May, 3rd during the Summer with the Annual Meeting held each year at Homecoming). New officers are elected at the Annual Meeting. Special meetings of the chapter may be called at any time by the President or majority vote of the Executive Council by giving a fifteen (15) day notice to the membership.

The fiscal year of the Strong-Turner Alumni Chapter is homecoming to homecoming.

PURPOSE

  1. To unite in an organized effort the African American Alumni of Arkansas State University.
  2. To advance the interests and promote the welfare of Arkansas State University and its Alumni Association.
  3. To develop an agenda for addressing the pressing needs of African American students, alumni, faculty and staff of Arkansas State University.
  4. To promote awareness of the rich African American legacy, traditions, and history of on the A-State campus and in the community.
  5. To provide a means for the association of African American Alumni and friends of Arkansas State University.

GOALS

The Strong-Turner Alumni Chapter of the A-State Alumni Association has a primary goal of furthering the active participation of African American alumni in the activities of Arkansas State University that directly impact African American students, alumni, faculty/staff and the community. Current programs to assist with these goals are:

  1. FUNDRAISING: The Linual Cameron Scholarship fund is an endowed scholarship for African American students at Arkansas State University.
  2. RECRUITMENT OF AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS, FACULTY AND STAFF: The chapter strives to assist with the recruiting of qualified African American students, faculty and staff to A-State.
  3. RETENTION OF AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS: The chapter assists the university and its programs designed to increase the number of African American graduates.
  4. CAREER ASSISTANCE: The chapter will assist African American graduates in job placement and career decision making whenever possible.
  5. HOMECOMING ACTIVITIES: The chapter celebrates and provides homecoming activities of particular interest to African American alumni.
  6. NEWSLETTER/LISTSERV: The chapter will publish an annual newsletter that will be mailed or sent through the S-TAC listserv to all African American graduates.
  7. BLACK HISTORY MONTH: The chapter working with the Office of Multicultural Affairs will assist in the design of programs each year during Black History Month.
  8. RECOGNITION OF AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS AND GRADUATES: The chapter working with the Office of Multicultural Affairs will recognize each year for outstanding achievements African American students and graduates with 3.0 GPAs.
