'Lakeport Lives On' documentary

NEW! - Lakeport Plantation receives 2008 Henry Award
April 21, 2008 - At the 2008 Henry Award ceremonies, the grand finale to the 34th annual Arkansas Governor's Conference on Tourism, the Arkansas Heritage Award went to Lakeport Plantation and the Sam E. Angel Family of Lake Village. Lakeport Plantation is one of ASU's Arkansas Heritage SITES; the project director for its restoration was Dr. Ruth Hawkins '82, director of Arkansas Heritage SITES.

Arkansas Heritage SITES also includes the Southern Tenant Farmers Museum, which was nominated for a Tourism Special Achievement Award. Paula Miles is administrative coordinator for both sites, and her husband Rick Miles '78 serves on the ASU Alumni Association board of directors.

Since 1981, the Henry Awards have been a feature of the annual governor's conference on tourism, honoring individuals and organizations responsible for important contributions to the state's tourism industry in the preceding year. The awards are named for Henri de Tonti, who founded Arkansas Post in 1686 and who is often hailed as the first "Arkansas Traveler."
