Indian Family Farewell Celebration

On Thursday evening, Feb. 28, 2008, Arkansas State University bid a fond farewell and celebrated the history of the Indian Family. All former Indian Family members and their guests were invited to a special VIP reception between the ladies' and men's basketball games against Louisiana-Monroe (we won both!) The event was sponsored by the ASU Alumni Association, and held in the Hames Room of the Convocation Center.

A specially-decorated cake was accompanied by other refreshments, but most of the guests preferred to reminisce and pose for photos with each other as well as the current Indian Family.

Richard Carvell '66, who chaired the planning committee for the Farewell Celebration, addressed the crowd, which included special guests such as Dr. and Mrs. Eugene Smith '52, A-State president emeritus, and Dr. Owen Hudgins '34, representing his late wife Gladys McPike Hudgins '49 for her role in the Indian Family heritage.

Former Brave John Phillips '73 was recognized for working with the Indian Family for many years after he graduated.
Jim Fowler '65 was the 'most senior' Indian Family member present.

Below are some fun photos from the evening which saw lots of hugs, plenty of smiles and a few tears. Also included below are some photos from the Indian Family's proud past which were shown in a special video at halftime of the men's basketball game, when former Indian Family members were brought into the arena and cheered by the crowd.

Whatever our mascot, A-S-T-A-T-E means VICTORY!
