From the ASU Alumni Association President |
| |
It is with much anticipation that I begin a two year term as president of the Arkansas State University Alumni Association. The coming months promise to be a time for realization of a major goal of the association and with it the opportunity for growth and expanded service to ASU and its alumni.
We have received over $3 million in contributions and commitments toward the construction of the Cooper Alumni Center, which will be a 20,000 square foot facility located at the site of the old pavilion. With the funds that have been so generously given, ground has been broken and the construction of the exterior of the building, the finishing of two interior rooms and much of the landscaping is moving toward completion. In order to finish the interior and to furnish and equip the facility as appropriate, an additional $2 million is needed. As most of you know, the opportunity to contribute to the completion of this wonderful area has been expanded to be available to alumni of all financial capabilities with the establishment of the 1924 Sustaining Life Membership. The name is taken from the year of the founding of the association. This program allows you to become a life member of the association (or gives you credit if you already are) and to contribute in excess of one thousand dollars toward the completion of the Cooper Alumni Center. Payment plans are available for your convenience. If you have not already done so, please join me in becoming a 1924 contributor. The completion of Cooper Alumni Center, with private funds exclusively, will mark a major accomplishment for our association. It will serve as the alumni's home on campus for many occasions, house our association offices and will be a spectacular addition to the university's campus, recognized for its quality and utility.
Along with the Fowler Center, Arkansas Biosciences Institute and the new Reng Center, the Cooper Alumni Center will be another world class facility on campus. Our alumni house will serve ASU and its alumni for generations to come, and will evidence the continuing growth and maturation of the university we love.
